Named after Queen Nonesi, the wife of King Ngubengcuka of the abaThembu, this cultural village pays homage to her enduring legacy. "Queen Nonesi passed away many years ago, but her influence still echoes in the way we present our stories, dress, and celebrate," said Babalwa Gijana, a proud member of the resort team.

Established in 2021 by the Department of Tourism and the local municipality, the resort was envisioned as a cultural tourism hub, one that attracts visitors while empowering the local community. Today, it is managed by a cooperative under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Fose and operated by Mr. Zukile Koli. Queen Nonesi Cultural Village is steadily emerging as a beacon of rural development.

The resort features 20 chalets, 10 traditional rondavels, and 5 double chalets, each equipped with air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and warm, tasteful finishes. Guests are welcomed with a buffet breakfast every morning. With facilities such as a restaurant, braai area, swimming pool, spa, crafts center, and events hall, there’s no shortage of reasons to extend one’s stay.

It also partners with community members, supporting local artisans, youth programs, and cultural education initiatives. Events such as Jazz Festivals and Community Buffet lunches have become a vibrant part of its calendar. "Events help us stay connected with the community while attracting a wider audience to our village," Babalwa added.

With ongoing growth, expansion plans are already in motion, including additional rooms, a children’s playground, and new recreational spaces.
